St. LuciaDec. 20-30, 2000 |
For Christmas, we
joined Megan's family in St. Lucia. Included in the Weeks clan were
Megan's parents, MJ & Bob, her brother and his wife, Sean & Liz, and
their adorable nine month old daughter, Maggie. Once we got used to
driving on the left side of the street and our lost luggage caught up to us,
we settled into a relaxed pace of life at the Windjammer Landing resort Daily activities
on St. Lucia included sleeping in, playing with Maggie, lounging on the
beach, quenching our thirst in a variety of ways, and did I mention, playing
with Maggie? OK, maybe I'm a bit biased as she's my first neice, but wow
this little girl is smart! By the end of the week, we had her clapping,
dancing, and saying "lalalalala" on command, not to mention ordering her own food, playing chess, and reading
to Grandpa. She even cooked us a fantastic lobster dinner. Other activiites
while on St. Lucia inluded a hike and picnic at the Union Nature
Trail where we learned about the local trees and plants including their
medicinal uses. On another day, Sean, Megan, and I went diving (my
first time) and saw all sorts of underwater plants and animals. Later
in the week, Megan and I put our relatively newfound but already rusty
sailing skills to the test and rented a Sunfish. We were doing pretty
well until the wind picked up and we capsized near the dock, providing entertainment
for the entire resort. In the end, we righted the boat and got in,
but were rescued nonetheless by one of the resort staff on a peddle
boat. Christmas in the
Carribean was interesting and enjoyable. For a guy from NJ, it
is an adjustment to be wearing shorts and going to the beach on
Christmas day. On Christmas eve, we joined others at the resort and
sang Christmas carols around the pool and watched a bonfire on the
beach. Christmas morning was filled with gift opening followed by the Weeks'
family Christmas special, Eggs a la Goldenrod. Sean & Liz gave us
special Maggie T-Shirts which we all wore
proudly around the resort. After a lovely week in the sun, Megan and I left for Annapolis, MD to celebrate the New Year's Eve wedding of my partner at PlanetAll, Brian Robertson. The wedding and the entire weekend was a blast and gave us a chance to catch up with lots of friends. On New Year's Day, we shipped bags off to various parts of the country and jumped on a plane for a long journey to Antarctica. |
